Peer Support Worker –  Moose Jaw

Opportunity:

Peer Support Worker will work as a part of the service team at HOMEBASE Moose Jaw; a highly collaborative partnership between many agencies and organizations. HOMEBASE is intended to be a one-stop shop to quickly connect youth with the right services, in the right place and time, emphasizing developing a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach and focusing on early interventions.

Position:

The Peer Support is a front-line staff who relates to and engages with participants of the organization from a peer perspective and provides emotional and social support, co-facilitates courses, and links individuals with HOMEBASE and community resources. Peer support is offered as part of a menu of options within the organization and the Youth Hub itself but will work as a part of a team.

Responsibilities:

  • Be the first point of entry and intake for youth at HOMEBASE
  • Provide one-to-one and group support
  • Liaise with youth participants and service providers in the hub to support the participants’ access to services and programs.
  • Provide service navigation and ensure linkages are made with HOMEBASE partners and community resources
  • Provide community outreach which may include facilitating presentations to community partners and youth participant recruitment
  • Support community engagement activities
  • Implement programming (life skills, employment, other)
  • Participate as a member of the service delivery team
  • Maintain and update documentation and statistical data as required
  • Contribute to agency-wide initiatives to advance the mission and ends of the organization
  • Support a clean, friendly and welcoming environment
  • Office administration includes answering phones, booking appointments, basic data entry and light housekeeping.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 education, some post-secondary considered an asset
  • Personal lived experience with mental health and/or addictions challenges and recovery, as well as a willingness, readiness and ability to share own experiences is considered an asset.
  • An understanding of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth and community services available
  • Knowledge of local mental health and addictions system and community services
  • Empathy, understanding and peer support skills
  • Reliable and have a strong willingness to improve the lives of youth aged 12-25
  • Availability evenings and weekends
  • Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle

Opportunity:

Working closely with the HOMEBASE team, the Job Coach will be responsible for the development and implementation of education and employment programming within HOMEBASE Moose Jaw. The Education and Employment programming at HOMEBASE will be designed to:

  • Empower youth through academic tutoring and creating connections to alternative and interest-based education opportunities.
  • Provide opportunities to develop job readiness and employable skills.
  • Build interview skills, strong resumes, job shadowing and connections to the community.
  • Support youth in overcoming barriers to employment.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver engaging youth orientated education and employment programming.
  • Assisting youth with developing essential skills for the workplace, including resume building, interview preparation, and workplace etiquette.
  • Regularly communicate with youth throughout their academic journey primarily via outbound communication tools and methods
  • Assist youth in identifying areas of interest for education and employment. Work with youth to apply for post-secondary and exploring alternative options.
  • Assist youth in setting and achieving academic goals, developing effective study habits, and managing their time effectively.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback on performance, identifying areas for improvement and potential roadblocks.
  • Conduct regular check-ins and progress reviews to assess progress and celebrate achievements.
  • Develop and deliver workshops and resources on academic success, study skills, and time management.
  • Maintain positive relationships with youth, employers, and educational institutions.
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with clients to discuss their employment goals and explore job opportunities tailored to their needs.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a diploma or Degree in education, social sciences or other
  • Career Professionals of Canada (CPC) Certification or International Coaching Federation (ICF) Certification considered an asset
  • 3-5 years’ experience working as job coach
  • 3-5 years’ experience in working with youth
  • Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable sector Check prior to employment offer
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • Must be available evenings and weekends
