Childcare Cook (Regina)

We are currently hiring a Full-Time Cook for one of our childcare centres in Regina. If you love working in fast-paced environment, are a self-starter and can work well independently, then we want to hear from you.

Responsibilities:

  • Practice food safety at all times during food preparation, food handling, cleaning, and sanitization procedures.
  • Prepare Ministry of Education approved healthy meals for Child Care Centres according to YMCA menus.
  • Clean and maintain the childcare kitchen, dishes, equipment, and food storage areas in accordance with Public Health standards.
  • Receive, organize, and store food deliveries (this role may require lifting up to 40 lbs).
  • Make accurate food order sheets, inventory lists, and other kitchen-related sheets.
  • Communicate ongoing food service needs to the Food Services Director and Centre Directors.
  • Complete and comply with all YMCA policies and procedures, including YMCA Child Protection and Cleaning standards.
  • Plan and facilitate cooking-based programming with children on a regular basis. This programming supports Ministry requirements and provides children with hands-on learning experiences related to food and cooking.
  • Interact with children as required during cooking programming. This position is not an Early Childhood Educator (ECE) role and does not include supervising children on the childcare floor or performing most ECE responsibilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Food Services.

Requirements:

  • Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Level 1 certification or willingness to obtain is required to support the programming role and meet Ministry requirements.
  • 1–2 years of food services or related experience.
  • Food Safety Certification (or willingness to obtain), as required.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain high standards of food safety, organization, and cleanliness.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle to travel between locations in Regina and Moose Jaw.
  • Availability to work from 6:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Comfortable delivering food to other YMCA sites as part of regular duties using your own vehicle.
