Regina, May 9, 2018—The Board of Directors of the YMCA of Regina is pleased to announce the appointment of Steve Compton as Chief Executive Officer, effective June 21, 2018.
“It is our great pleasure to announce that Steve Compton, an experienced non-profit Executive and lifelong Regina resident, will be joining us as Chief Executive Officer,” said Jason Carlston, Board Chair. “Steve possesses a deep understanding of our community, coupled with non-profit experience, most recently, as CEO of the Regina Food Bank. His experience, passion for the community and ability to build positive relationships make him the ideal leader for our organization.”
As CEO of the Regina Food Bank since 2012, Steve has led the organization through a period of growth and expansion to serve more citizens and offer enriched educational and support programs, in addition to several change initiatives. He has also improved organizational performance and developed many community partnerships. Steve is an active volunteer in the Regina community and will be a familiar face to many of our members and program participants.
The recruitment of a new CEO marks the successful conclusion of the transition plan announced by the YMCA of Regina last Fall. That transition plan has been led by Interim CEO Darryl McKenzie. As announced in November, 2017, Darryl was contracted for an executive term appointment of six to nine months to lead the transition of our organization and to support the hiring of a permanent CEO. We extend our appreciation to Darryl for his leadership and we thank him for his commitment.
“Our community participated in the CEO selection process through stakeholder consultations conducted in January, 2018,” said Carlston. “These consensus views—that we seek a permanent CEO who is familiar with Regina and the non-profit sector—were incorporated into our recruitment efforts.”
The recruitment and selection of the CEO was conducted by a committee appointed by the YMCA of Regina Board of Directors and included current and past Directors, and was supported by Darryl McKenzie and Nancy Farries, a representative from YMCA Canada. More than 60 high quality applicants expressed interest in this opportunity.
